However, Japanese fans have been wondering whether or not an exclusive Japan-only playable character will show up in the new release in light of complicated rights issues.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"905\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" src=\"http:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-002.jpeg\" alt=\"Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter original Japanese edition character select with Norimaro\" class=\"wp-image-32697\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-002.jpeg 1200w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-002-380x287.jpeg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-002-768x579.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-002-600x453.jpeg 600w\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Norimaro on the character select screen of the Japanese version of Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Japan-exclusive character in question is Norimaro, who appeared in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, the 1997 game which featured two-on-two tag team matches between characters from the Marvel universe and Street Fighter. However, Norimaro was absent from the international release of the game (although he is still in the game files, so it\u2019s apparently possible to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=h4DQ1RzrfLw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cheat your way to using him<\/a>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u300eMARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics\u300f\u30a2\u30ca\u30a6\u30f3\u30b9\u30c8\u30ec\u30fc\u30e9\u30fc\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qCZ4S2I9AEc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So, who is Norimaro and why was he only in the Japanese version of Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter?&nbsp; Norimaro was an original character created and voiced by Japanese comedian Noritake Kinashi, who is a member of the Tunnels comedy duo. Norimaro is a caricature of a nerdy teenaged schoolboy who is obsessed with Marvel characters (he even has a taunt where he can ask for an autograph). His moves include using his shoulder bag as a weapon and throwing various objects out of his bag at opponents including bananas, a set square and a teddy bear. Noritake Kinashi also played the character in real life in promotions for the game and on a variety program on Nippon TV (NTV) at the time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"ja\" dir=\"ltr\">\u61b2\u78e8\u5442\u3001\u8a31\u3055\u308c\u306a\u304b\u3063\u305f\u304b\u2026\uff08\u53f3\u304c\u5f53\u6642\u306e\u65e5\u672c\u7248\u30dd\u30b9\u30bf\u30fc\uff09 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lgQAOltofS\">pic.twitter.com\/lgQAOltofS<\/a><\/p>&mdash; \u30a4\u30aa\uff3f\u9cf3\u4ed9\u82b1 (@io_housenka) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/io_housenka\/status\/1803077184380362834?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 18, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Post translation: <\/strong><em>Was Norimaro not approved? (On the right is the original Japanese version\u2019s poster).<\/em>\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is unclear at this stage whether or not Norimaro will be in<strong> <\/strong>Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics &#8211; as the official list of changes does not mention him- adding to the confusion among Japanese fans of the game on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bcc2528\/status\/1803078591254757598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">X<\/a>. However, most of the evidence points towards his absence (including the new poster in the tweet above, where he is replaced by Dhalsim). Norimaro is not present in the list of playable characters on the official website. He is also noticeably absent from the character select screen- the game\u2019s title logo takes up the square where his character portrait was in the original Japanese release.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" src=\"http:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-001.jpeg\" alt=\"Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter\" class=\"wp-image-32696\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-001.jpeg 1280w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-001-380x214.jpeg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-001-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240619-32687-001-600x338.jpeg 600w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, the original release contained copyright notices for NTV and Noritake Kinashi\u2019s agency at the time, however, these are not included in the licensing notices for the new release, as seen in the trailer below. According to the official website, Cyber Akuma has been added as a playable character, so it is possible that he is the replacement for Norimaro.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MARVEL SUPER HEROES vs. STREET FIGHTER (JP)\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Im2RdJrbagE?start=70&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Yoshiki Okamato was the Head of Development at Capcom at the time of the original game\u2019s release and was responsible for the collaboration that brought Norimaro to the Japanese version. According to his <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ED0WZTtcKIs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">detailed video<\/a> on the character\u2019s creation, a separate royalty payment was made for Norimaro. In addition, he explained that Marvel did not want the character to be included in the game. Due to this complicated rights situation- it seems likely that Norimaro will be cut from the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly this is not the only time that a Japanese comedian&#8217;s character has appeared as a playable fighter in a Capcom game- <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20240229-27865\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Street Fighter 2 Pocky Edition recently featured a brand new character based on comedian Eiko Kano<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.capcom-games.com\/marvel-vs-capcom-fc\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics<\/a> is scheduled to be released on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch and PS4 in 2024.
