Made by indie developer Kotake Create, the first-person walking sim has become a surprising hit on Steam since its release in November 2023, spawning numerous <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20231225-24850\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">copycat games<\/a>. Wandering around the liminal spaces in The Exit 8 is creepy enough, but VFX artist and director Ray Wakui recently upped the scare factor by combining real-life footage of a train station passageway with assets from the game.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entitled a \u201clive action version of The Exit 8,\u201d the video has made a big impact on X for its scariness and skillful blending of real and virtual elements.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be warned that the video below contains an infamous jump scare from the game!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"ja\" dir=\"ltr\">\u5b9f\u5199\u7248\u30fb8\u756a\u51fa\u53e3<br><br>(\u97f3\u3042\u308a\/\u30d5\u30eb\u753b\u9762\u63a8\u5968) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zD5KFTtb4N\">pic.twitter.com\/zD5KFTtb4N<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Ray Wakui \/ \u6d8c\u4e95\u5dba (@Ray_T6L) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ray_T6L\/status\/1743260089010831694?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 5, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Since being posted on X on January 5, the video has garnered 6.5 million views and almost 400 comments. Most commenters expressed how scary the video was and many were impressed by the creator&#8217;s skills, with reactions such as \u201cIt\u2019s super realistic\u201d and \u201cHe went all out.\u201d Kotake Create also reposted the video, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NOTOKEKE\/status\/1743276646973735114?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reacting with a surprised utterance<\/a>. Since The Exit 8\u2019s release, people have been <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20231205-23743\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pointing out<\/a> how the diagonal ceiling light anomaly resembles an art installation in Tokyo\u2019s Kiyosumi Shirakawa station. The mysterious lights are said to resemble the hustle and bustle going on above the ground (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sankei.com\/photo\/story\/news\/161107\/sty1611070001-n1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sankei News<\/a>). Kotake Create has since confirmed that the anomaly is based on this location. Wakui is the head of video creation studio <a href=\"https:\/\/veable.tokyo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VEABLE<\/a>, which has produced many commercials and music videos for Japanese artists such as Mrs. Green Apple, Kumi Koda and Golden Bomber. VEABLE uses chroma key technology to make their videos using live-action composite VFX, resulting in the creation of a realistic yet otherworldly atmosphere.
