Japanese scientists recreate the idea in VR\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A group of Tokyo University researchers from the Virtual Reality Society of Japan recently developed a VR experience (we\u2019ll call it a game) in which the user can dislodge a \u201cHoly Sword\u201d from an altar in real life (embellished in virtual reality, of course). However, no amount of physical power can make the sword budge \u2013 the player needs to use the power of their concentration.\u00a0Unsurprisingly, learning of this fun experiment, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rods_skyfish\/status\/1724939496553423308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">users<\/a> were quick to make a connection with the divine Master Sword featured in the Legend of Zelda series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"[IVRC2023 SEED STAGE] \u8056\u5263\u3092\u7d99\u3050\u8005\u3000  \u96c6\u4e2d\u306e\u8a3c\u660e\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iUkLfrCzRpg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A paper titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/conference.vrsj.org\/ac2023\/program\/doc\/IVRC-03.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Legend of the Holy Sword \u2013 Proof of Concentration<\/a>\u201d published in September 2023 reports on an experimental VR game that is played by consciously raising your level of concentration. The apparatus includes a \u201cHoly Sword,\u201d consisting of a hilt, crossguard and blade, and an \u201caltar\u201d (pedestal) that the sword is driven into. The HMD obtains data on the player\u2019s line of sight and combines it with brain wave data, measuring concentration. The intensity of the stimulation seems to change depending on the player\u2019s level of concentration too.
