{"id":17462,"date":"2023-01-10T20:33:30","date_gmt":"2023-01-10T11:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/?p=17462"},"modified":"2023-01-10T20:33:30","modified_gmt":"2023-01-10T11:33:30","slug":"20220110-17462","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20220110-17462\/","title":{"rendered":"Final Fantasy XVI producer quells PC version release rumors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br><br>Square Enix\u2019s Naoki Yoshida made comments touching on rumors about the release of a PC version of <em><strong>Final Fantasy XVI<\/strong><\/em> during a live stream on January 9 (JST).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The live stream in question was an annual event where members of the <em>Final Fantasy XIV <\/em>development team, including Yoshida, enjoy games of mahjong with guests. Yoshida is also the producer of <em>FFXVI<\/em>, and toward the end of the stream he made a comment regarding some rumors about the game, saying, \u201cThere\u2019s been rumors going around about a PC version, but no one has said anything about the release of a PC version. Why are people expecting a PC version to come out half a year later?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yoshida is correct in that Square Enix never announced a PC version of <em>FFXVI<\/em> in the first place.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Final Fantasy XVI - Revenge Trailer | PS5 Games\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wvunu2e29tc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><em>FFXVI<\/em>, the latest mainline title in the <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> series, will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on June 22. However, previously released trailers for the game have specified that it will be a timed exclusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the trailer posted above, which was released last December, it clearly states that the game is \u201cNot available on other platforms until 12.31.2023.\u201d In other words, after six months have passed following the launch of the PS5 version in June, it is possible that the game may be released on platforms other than the PS5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another reason as to why rumors regarding a PC version have emerged is that when <em>FFXVI <\/em>was first announced in 2020, the initial trailer for the game specified that it is a \u201cPS console exclusive\u201d and will be \u201cAlso available on PC.\u201d Later on, the trailer was replaced with a version that removed the text mentioning a PC version, but this did nothing to stop a surge of rumors that a PC version of the game would be released once the period of PS5 exclusivity ends.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" src=\"http:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001-696x392.jpg 696w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230110-233256-001-747x420.jpg 747w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In recent years, it is becoming standard for any timed PS exclusive or PS console exclusive titles to specify the period of exclusivity within their trailers. For example, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N6goMdDb4UQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">latest trailer<\/a> for Square Enix\u2019s PS5\/PC action RPG <em>Forspoken<\/em>, it states that the game is a \u201cPlayStation 5 console exclusive\u201d while also noting that it is \u201cAlso available on PC. Not available on other consoles until at least January 23, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, the exclusivity period that is included in a trailer is something that was agreed upon by SIE and the developer\/publisher of a game. Whether that game is released on different platforms after the period has ended is an entirely different matter. As an example, despite the fact that the period of exclusivity for <em>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/em> is long over, it has still not been released on another console. Similarly, we will not know for certain whether a PC version of <em>FFXVI<\/em> will be released until Square Enix makes an actual announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also could be the case that Yoshida made these comments about the PC version rumors because he is concerned that they might discourage those who plan to purchase a PS5 in order to play <em>FFXVI<\/em>. During the stream he encouraged fans to buy a PS5 and said, \u201cWe spent too much money,\u201d likely referring to the high development costs. As a PS5 exclusive title, the sales of <em>FFXVI<\/em> will be closely linked to the number of people who purchase a PS5 to play it. When you consider the long-term supply issue that the PS5 has endured since its release, it\u2019s a rather serious problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, SIE <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ja.playstation.com\/2022\/12\/03\/20221203-pspawards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> last December that it has resolved the long-term supply issue of the PlayStation 5. And during Sony&#8217;s recent CES presentation, SIE boss Jim Ryan stated that &#8220;Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward.&#8221; It appears that the supply of PS5 consoles is continuing to gradually increase.<br><br><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:12px\"><em>Written by.
