The first game released on the original PlayStation back in 1997 and let players freely customize and pilot their own unique mechs. Players would sharpen their fighting skills by completing missions and carefully pouring over the details of the mechs they assembled and customized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last title in the series, <em>Armored Core: Verdict Day<\/em>, launched back in 2013. Since then, FromSoftware has gone on to release hits like <em>Dark Souls 3<\/em>, <em>Bloodborne<\/em>, <em>Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice<\/em>, and <em>Elden Ring<\/em>. In the 9 years since the last <em>Armored Core <\/em>game, the studio has gone on to widely expand their audience and fanbase. This also means many fans of the studio haven\u2019t even touched the <em>Armored Core<\/em> series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the \/r\/fromsoftware subreddit there are multiple threads poking fun at the idea that FromSoftware fans are excited but haven\u2019t actually had experience with the series. Within these threads, Redditors are leaving comments saying that while they don\u2019t know <em>Armored Core<\/em>, if it\u2019s FromSoftware, it\u2019s bound to be good. Some are also pointing out that it seems different than <em>Dark Souls<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While fans of <em>Armored Core<\/em> are trying to explain the appeal of the series, it\u2019s likely hard to do justice with just words. Additionally, these games haven\u2019t received ports to modern hardware and there aren\u2019t any PC versions. For those who want to try out these games and see what <em>Armored Core<\/em> is all about, this makes the barrier to entry pretty high (<a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20221213-17224\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">related article<\/a>).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-reddit wp-block-embed-reddit\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height:500px\" ><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/fromsoftware\/comments\/zgzhrw\/yes_what_is_it_actually\/\">Yes!!! What is it actually?<\/a><br> by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/gameovernate\/\">u\/gameovernate<\/a> in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/fromsoftware\/\">fromsoftware<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>As this has been going on, various outlets have been putting out new information about the game, including this interview with the game\u2019s initial game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and current director Masaru Yamamura from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/armored-core-6-looks-to-be-more-armored-core-than-soulsborne\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IGN<\/a>. In the interview, the team explains that <em>Armored Core VI<\/em> will stick to the foundation of the series, and says, \u201cwe\u2019ve not been making a conscious effort to try to direct it towards more Soulsborne-type gameplay.\u201d But even if you say the new <em>Armored Core<\/em> will be like <em>Armored Core<\/em>, if you haven\u2019t played the series, all you can really do is imagine what that entails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the same interview, Miyazaki says, \u201cwe wanted to take the assembly aspect, assembling and customizing your own mech \u2014 your AC \u2014 and then being able to exact a high level of control over the assembled mech,\u201d when discussing the two core concepts they wanted to explore for <em>Armored Core VI<\/em>. However, the fun that degree of freedom provides might be hard to grasp for those who haven\u2019t played the games.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-reddit wp-block-embed-reddit\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height:500px\" ><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/fromsoftware\/comments\/zk6v8y\/miyazaki_has_spoken\/\">Miyazaki has spoken<\/a><br> by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/InteractionLoose1850\/\">u\/InteractionLoose1850<\/a> in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/fromsoftware\/\">fromsoftware<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>While there are gamers around the world who are interested but unfamiliar with the series, the number of FromSoftware fans who haven\u2019t played the games or didn\u2019t know about them seems comparatively higher outside of Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, the subreddit for <em>Elden Ring<\/em> has over 1.6 million members as of this writing. The \/r\/fromsoftware subreddit has around 150,000 members, and the <em>Armored Core<\/em> community only has 15,870 members. Before the announcement of the new game, that number was just below 9,000 (<a href=\"https:\/\/subredditstats.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Subreddit Stats<\/a>). <em>Armored Core<\/em> games have been released globally since the first game in the series, but it doesn\u2019t seem to have reached the same level of name recognition as it did in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When looking at the <a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/1888160\/ARMORED_CORE_VI_FIRES_OF_RUBICON\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steam Store page<\/a> for the game, we can see the logo of the Japanese version has \u201cArmored Core VI\u201d in larger text than the subtitle. On the English version, the \u201cFire of Rubicon\u201d subtitle is larger.
