The unusual message came after false rumors involving studio head Hideo Kojima began circulating online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/KojimaProductions?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#KojimaProductions<\/a> strongly condemns the spread of fake news and rumors that convey false information. While Kojima previously worked on titles such as the <em>Metal Gear<\/em> series while at Konami, he has since gone independent, releasing his team\u2019s latest game <em>Death Stranding<\/em> in 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 9, the studio\u2019s English and Japanese official Twitter accounts both made unusual tweets condemning the spread of fake news, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KojiPro2015\/status\/1545750882255773696\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Japanese tweet<\/a> expressing that it\u2019s regrettable lies would be used to damage someone\u2019s reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tweets are seen as a response to false information that began spreading about the game developer. Japan\u2019s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated on July 8 (JST) with domestic and international media covering the incident extensively the following day. This included media outlets in Greece and a French politician spreading images of a completely unrelated Hideo Kojima as the perpetrator, a serious defamation of the game developer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears that the false information started as a malicious post on an internet forum that was then treated as fact by some non-gaming media outlets.
