But if that\u2019s the case, why are we seeing a trend toward different terminology? Besides just matching a game\u2019s setting, the term \u201ceasy\u201d seems to leave a bad taste in the mouths of some players.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Behind the question<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We asked Masuda why he decided to post the Twitter poll, and he mentioned that he once saw someone tweeting out how they don\u2019t like the term \u201ceasy\u201d to describe a game\u2019s least difficult mode. This prompted Masuda to post the pole, which has since gathered over 53,000 responses, with over 90% answering that \u201ceasy\u201d doesn\u2019t make them feel bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While a slightly different topic, some players did lament that they don\u2019t like when games lock content behind certain difficulty levels. One example is how the <em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> series hides its secret movies behind different criteria depending on the difficulty level. And depending on the game, there\u2019s content that can\u2019t be viewed when the game is played on Beginner Mode. This idea creates a sort of hierarchy of gamers that can beat hard games and those that can\u2019t. Contrast that with picking \u201cCall me Terror-Billy!\u201d which splatters blood across your character\u2019s ferocious looking face. However, big developers and publishers are also making stronger pushes toward accessibility. One example is <em>The Last of Us Part II<\/em> which is a fairly difficult game reportedly being completed by a gamer without sight. Developers are continuing to devise ways to not only help those with disabilities play, but to help those that aren\u2019t skilled at games complete them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Well, I&#39;ve done it. I&#39;ve played through the entirety of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TheLastOfUsPartII?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheLastOfUsPartII<\/a> and completed it, as a gamer without sight, with no sighted assistance.<br>This is the first time I&#39;ve been able  to achieve this in a videogame and for that, I can&#39;t thank <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Naughty_Dog?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Naughty_Dog<\/a> enough. For that reason, some players are likely put off by the idea of the term \u201cEasy Mode.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the previously mentioned Twitter poll, 90% of respondents did say that \u201cEasy Mode\u201d doesn\u2019t give them a bad feeling. However, there\u2019s also a possibility that the poll didn\u2019t reach players who are more likely to play on Easy. There\u2019s a tendency to admire those who are supremely skilled in any field, but everyone has to start somewhere. Beginner gamers may eventually become skilled players. But even if they don\u2019t, players shouldn\u2019t feel looked down upon or obligated to play a certain way if they\u2019re having fun doing what they\u2019re doing.
