Nick Mosier<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>A developer that goes by the name Tadasumen launched <strong><em>PAON-<\/em>\u3071\u304a\u3093<em>&#8211; BEYOND THE PIEN<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>as a free game on June 18 for PC (Windows) with a download link on their personal website, <a href=\"http:\/\/kusoi.site\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">kusoi.site<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you aren\u2019t familiar with recent Japanese buzzwords and slang, the title might not make a whole lot of sense. \u201cPien\u201d is a mimetic word for when you\u2019re a little sad and maybe have tears welling up in your eyes. \u201cPaon\u201d is similar but is a level of sadness that exceeds a simple \u201cpien&#8221;. Fun fact! it\u2019s also the sound elephants make in Japanese.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u305d\u306e\u6050\u6016\u3074\u3048\u3093\u8d85\u3048\u3066\u2026\u300ePAON-\u3071\u304a\u3093- BEYOND THE PIEN\u300f\u7d39\u4ecb\u52d5\u753b\u3010\u304f\u305d\u30b2\u30fcDirect\uff1aVol.02\u3011\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dvjr7-qio-o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>PAON-<\/em>\u3071\u304a\u3093<em>&#8211; BEYOND THE PIEN <\/em>is the second part of another 3D horror game developed by Tadasumen called <em>PIEN-<\/em>\u3074\u3048\u3093<em>&#8211; <\/em>where the characters take sadness to the next level by going beyond \u201cpien&#8221; to a \u201cpaon&#8221; motif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The setting of the game is the Buzzword JP300-310 research facility. Something strange happens while the main character is visiting the facility and they have to face off against a pien-faced muscle man called Paon to stay alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the facility are hidden pien and paon symbols. The player runs around the facility searching for these symbols while running away from the Paon. When you shine your flashlight on the symbols, they\u2019ll let out a sad cry and disappear. The sense of fear is palpable in the dark research facility. It\u2019s also instant death if you\u2019re caught by the Paon which adds to the fear. This isn\u2019t your average horror game though. Things like the happy tune with vocals that plays when the Paon is chasing you create an atmosphere of absurdity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the previous title <em>PIEN-<\/em>\u3074\u3048\u3093<em>-, <\/em>&nbsp;the game seems scary but actually isn\u2019t and paints a different experience than other horror games. Plus the total play-time is around 30 minutes.
