Sure i understand what you mean, but it would help to have resources in the sense of AI Translations, Game Development assistance, there is not a lot of Japanese Indies that have access to things bigger Studio's have. I am not saying to pay the Indie Studio's money but to provide middleware support to expand overseas.

With that amount of money, they should be able to make Japan's version of Steam, not just for their games, but also their anime, manga, music, tokusatsu shows, etc. Along with media preservations to keep old works alive. They can push global physical releases as well. It'd be game changer if they do that. But, sadly, even their industry experts still don't think until that far....

Regardless of questionable subsidies from government, indie devs don't have to wait for government to make their own games. They can thrive to make one or more hits with low-budget but low-risk state. Just look at Dispatch, Silksong, Stardew Valley, Peak, Megabonk, Meccha Chameleon, etc. Those games weren't backed by their government at all yet somehow they found their success in the market.

Looking at their funding website I completely agree with everyone, funding DeNA is not a great idea because they are not hurting for money, neither is Koei Tecmo just to make games. It's more like favoritism than anything long term for the country.

If you are going to do Government funding at least make it easier for companies to expand overseeas through 3rd party support with middleware companies through Game Engine's, numerous smaller Indie Studio's.
