Nintendo should lose. Nintendo should also give up the patents that aren’t actually their idea. Patenting game mechanics is wrong and should be illegal in every country.

I’m rooting for the underdogs here. I e remember a time when Nintendo made games that outpaced competition, and honestly them spending money on seeing a fun concept like Palword shows me that they’d rather monopolize the market than make good games themselves.

Nintendo doesn’t have a leg to stand on. For one they filed these patents /after/ Palworlds success. Nintendo has a notorious history of being overzealous with copyright claims and infringement lawsuits. They have this idea that even if someone buys something from them Nintendo has complete control over the product after sale which is not how that works. They’ve recently been under fire for including remote kill switches in the Switch 2 if any modifications are detected. What if it goes off if a legitimate modification is made like changing the battery or what if the dog chews one of the controllers would that trigger this system if part of the controller is nonresponsive?

The other part that Nintendo has no leg to stand on is the fact the mechanic they’re suing over is included in many games for decades including World of Warcraft when you could capture monsters by tossing cages at them. The patent is decades too late especially under the Japanese patent law that requires what you are patenting to be unique and distinctive for it to be valid. Throwing an object to capture a creature is not unique and has been done for decades by now.

Nintendo has lost my business due to their lawsuits against of Pocket Pair. I cancelled my Switch 2 preorder. The Japanese courts allowing them to pursue litigation for patents filed after the release of the game is insane.

Palworld never even shut down, the game never stopped being sold. Lol, are you even following this topic at all, or is this just brainless trolling? Pocketpair never switched out any model designs, and Nintendo isn’t even suing for model designs anyway, they’re suing for hastily written patents that apply to 90% of the video game industry. Besides, the entirety of Gen 1 Pokemon is literally just plagiarized from Dragon Quest.

Oh please, the evidence is stacked against paleword kts no secret thet plagiarized that’s the reason paleword had to shut down in the first place. Now their trying to smooth it over by switching model designs in hopes they can keep it up running. If they spent more time being original and stop trying to copy Pokémon likeness they wouldn’t be in this mess and whays more they had ample time to prevent this but chose to keep profiting on someone else idea. Paleword won’t win regardless if they change the name there finished rightfully so, rather you like Nintendo as a company or not is irrelevant Nintendo has just as much right to protect there claim and investment as much as paleword has the right to steal amd deny their own.

In my opinion, Nintendo only acted because they felt threatened. They’re have been many creature capture games, but most of them kinda fell flat. Two years after Pokémon came out, Jade Cocoon came out on Playstation. Nintendo didn’t make a single move on them. They didn’t even make a move on Digimon World Dusk and Dawn when those came out on DS. I honestly think part of the issue was, people calling Palworld “Pokémon with guns.” If people hadn’t talked like that, I don’t think Nintendo would have reacted like this. They were too busy trying to take down fan games.

I’m hoping Pocketpair can pull a win here. While I can see similarities to Nintendo games in Palworld, but that’s not much of a case on its own. Nintendo didn’t invent the monster capturing genre. It’s common for all sorts of media to draw inspiration from popular content. I don’t see the creators of The Shadow trying to put a stop to Batman.

This industry really is screwed if we’re rooting for the company who’s idea of innovation is mashing together other games and deliberately copying art styles and bootlegging fan favorite designs.
Nintendo is a terrible company and deserves the L, but I’m not going to pretend like Palworld would’ve been successful if it wasn’t marketed as “Pokemon with guns and slavery” when it’s otherwise a carbon copy of all of the other open world survival games on the market.

You can tell Nintendo’s selfish, because ark’s creators are not going out of their way to sue them for patent infringements even though it’s pretty much a monster instead of a dinosaur. All this looks like too me is a peeing contest. Nintendo’s just ‘trying’ to make an example of pocketpair. I hate the concept of patents. Atleast for as long as they can have them. I’d get it if it was tops 10-15 years before someone can start developing it farther.
