Generative AI is being treated like a band-aid for a bloated industry and longer dev time, even with AA games. Not to use AI in classic sense with games, but to do concept, code and visuals and expect people to be connected? If they aren’t, how will gamer be? People spent decade picking up visual cues from certain developers and game design. That will be entirely gone with future game devs, if not then not knowing how to make games without ChatGPT telling them.

When you use generative-AI to make stuff, to “rapidly iterate” (as these people talk about it) you never have those moments to really familiarize yourself with your art and really “see” it. It’s like trying to “develop your aesthetic sense” by doomscrolling.

It takes time and effort and struggle to develop your creative voice, you need to do the work to realize your own ideas to actually understand your own ideas fully. You have to make all the decisions for yourself to learn which ones worked well and which didn’t.

When you put some prompts into a machine and get a picture out, you’re outsourcing all that thinking and contemplation and time and space and growth and understanding to a machine. You make some decisions with the prompts, and it makes all the other decisions *for* you, you cede control, and you give up thinking and learning from the parts you didn’t do.

It’s like ordering different items from the menu at a restaurant, and liking one dish more than another, then concluding you’re a chef.
