I guess it wouldn’t matter enough to me either way in reality, but I’m curious as to why they felt the need to draw a distinction in their own language and change at all if they’re not going to draw a distinction English. It’d be the same here, revenant would still be just a fancy word that we would replace for vampires since that’s what we understand they are over here too… I don’t think it would confuse their overseas audiences much as they think.
