I have a feeling there will come a way to cut out the publishers if this continues, a hopeful scenario that forces publishers to negotiate. I doubt they have much money themselves in the economy, but still would rather lose the mangaka, have nothing, instead of give say 30%.

Artists aren't respected anymore outside of those that are fans or participate themselves. The worst case is these publishers influence future mangaka to never try it earn nothing from hard work. It's easy to see now how publishers never pay attention to manga on r go overseas and end up censored. I can hope something more direct in digital sales becomes more viable within and without Japan.

I am very saddened to hear that. There seems to be a concentration of power and wealth to corporations who are out of touch and just look at money and charts but do not understand the personal impacts everyone suffers from let alone the contributions they make for the country and the company. They are also afraid to compete and do what every big corporation does when they can not adapt to change and are afraid of losing hegemony. Coerce and exploit. By the end of the day I do think there needs to be some smaller publishing companies that exist and protection laws need to be passed to prevent and penalize big publishers from trying to coerce smaller publisher's into compliance as a whole. Because forcing compliance in this sense is lowering the bar and lowering the standard artificially. When we need to have that bar raised higher.

Manga, and Anime have have the hardest working talents in the industry despite the worst conditions. I certainly hope they get fair compensation for their work, the conditions become better and begin to move past this as a bad period in time.
